Below, you will find some images of messages you might see when logging on to the FIU network with the Clean Access Agent.  Under each screen is a detailed explanation of the message and instructions on how to proceed further.

You have temporary access !

Description

This screen is displayed if your computer does not meet the requirements to access the FIU network.  This screen will be followed by one or more screens describing what requirements your computer does not meet and what steps to take.  You will have temporary access to the network until your computer meets all necessary requirements. 

Temporary Access Limitations

While on temporary access, you will have the following limitations:

• Internet access on standard HTTP and HTTPS ports.
• Other network programs like instant messengers, FTP, games, databases, file sharing may not function.
• Full access to UTS, antivirus and Microsoft Update websites.
• This access will expire in two hours, after which you will be asked to log on to the network again.

Click on Continue on this screen to see what requirements your computer fails to meet.

 

Windows Update Requirement

Description

This screen is displayed if your computer is not up-to-date with the latest Microsoft Windows updates.  Microsoft releases updates for its operating systems through Automatic Updates.  In order to access the FIU network your computer must have Automatic Updates enabled and be up-to-date with all Microsoft security and hot-fix patches.  Only the security and hot-fix patches are required to gain full access to the FIU network.

Next Step

Click on the Update button on this screen to launch Automatic Updates in the background.  Automatic Updates will download and install the required Windows security and hot-fix patches on your computer.  You can continue to work on your computer while Automatic Updates run in the background.  You computer will have temporary access during this process as described above.  When the updates are complete click the Next button.

Note:  Your computer might need to reboot after the installation of certain updates.  If asked to do so, please reboot your computer to have all updates take effect.

 

Antivirus Software Requirement

Description

This screen is displayed if your computer does not have an antivirus program installed.  In order to access the FIU network, your computer must have an antivirus program installed, along with up-to-date virus definitions.  FIU offers free or discounted antivirus programs to its students, faculty and staff.  Click on the antivirus link to find a complete list of supported antivirus products.  You will also find information on Clean Access-supported free antivirus products offered by different vendors.

Next Step

Click on the Go To Link on this screen to get information on how to obtain an antivirus program.  Click on Next on this screen once you have installed an antivirus program on your computer.

 

Antivirus Definition Update

Description

This screen is displayed if your computer does not have up-to-date virus definitions.  In order to access the FIU network, you antivirus program must have access to up-to-date virus definitions.

Next Step

Click on the Update button on this screen to launch your antivirus program's definitions update.  If your antivirus program does not begin the virus definitions update, you may have to do this manually.  Refer to your antivirus product's documentation for instructions on how to update your virus definitions.  Most vendors require you to have a valid license or subscription before downloading virus definitions updates.

Click on Next on this screen once your antivirus definitions have been updated.
