FIU Network Access > Visitor Information

Visitors to the university can gain limited access to the FIU network and the Internet by following the steps outlined below.  If additional access is required, the computer will need to be registered by an FIU liaison person or UTS

Conference participants please contact your conference representative or visit the conference guest services area for additional information on network and Internet access. 

Guest Access

To gain Guest Access to the FIU network, follow the steps below:

  • Use your wireless card and associate to the FIUAIR SSID.  
  • Launch a web browser and try to access a website on the Internet.
  • When prompted to login, click on the Guest Access link found below the username and password text fields.
  • Read and accept the network usage statement.
  • Your computer will be allowed on the network for two hours.  After two hours repeat this process to gain access to the network again.

    Limitations of Guest Access

    • Session will expire in two hours.
    • Bandwidth is limited.
    • Only the following ports and protocols will be allowed:
      • Standard web ports (HTTP, HTTPS)
      • VPN protocols and ports ( PPTP and IPsec)
      • SSH protocol

Additional Access

If additional access to the FIU network and the Internet is required the guest computer must be registered on AIRS.  Please contact your FIU liaison person or UTS for additional information.

The information provided below is for use by the FIU liaison person registering a visitor computer. 

  • Log on to AIRS using your username and password.
  • Click on Request a new registration.
  • Obtain the visitor computer's MAC address and enter it on the Ethernet address field.
  • From Select user's relationship to the University field, select one of the items below.  Additional information regarding the access provided by each of these fields can be found by clicking the question mark icon next to the relationship field on the AIRS registration form.
    • Conference Participant
    • Long-term Visitor
  • Use the description field to enter information about the visitor and the event if applicable.
